First Dubai Tram Accident, What lesson we learnt

The first accident caused since Dubai Tram opened on November 2014. One car collide with Tram on JBR. As it sounds it is a mishap should avoid every driver who drive through the Tram way. Thank god it was minor crash with no injury.

The reason behind the crash

Mohammed Mudharreb,  Director of Rail Operations at the RTA explained the cause,
Two of the lanes are heading straight, while the left lane is for traffic going left. There are two different traffic lights: one for traffic going straight and one for traffic going left.

What is important to realize here is that these traffic lights function separately from each other. While the traffic light may have given a green light to traffic heading straight, the traffic going left might be stopped by a red light.

Yesterday, the motorist on the left lane mistook the green light for the traffic going straight for a green light to go left, while his traffic light was red.

He took off at high speed, and once he had taken the turn he realized that there was traffic coming his way. He promptly stopped his car while he was on the track of the tram at that moment.

"A tram approached, the driver used his emergency break to minimise the damage and there was a minor crash," he said.

In the case of this accident, the driver could not see the tram approaching, because it was in his blind spot

However, the driver should have paid attention to the traffic light, which was meant for him, he pointed out.

"There are three or four similar junctions with Dubai Tram in the same area, where traffic lights signal directions for traffic to different destinations.

"It is important that the motorist pays strict attention in these junctions areas and do not take off fast, in order to avoid such accidents."
As depicts in the diagram below there was a two distinct units of signals are there in the tram area. One dedicated for the tram way. So even if the signals green in the straight the left turn signal may be red.

Lesson learnt

Majority of the accident happening due to the distraction while driving. This distraction can be a mobile phone or any other road users. So we should be alert always during driving.

Pay special attention to signals and rules on tram area when you driving through.

Ttraffic lights function separately from each other in tram area. While the traffic light may have given a green light to traffic heading straight, the traffic going left might be stopped by a red light.

The speed limit mostly in tram area is 60 or 80 KMPH. Follow the speed limit

Safe driving

The 10 simple Tips to find great job in Dubai

Find the right job in Dubai is a challenge
Right strategy helps you to find right job in Dubai
It was a long journey for me to find a suitable job in Dubai that match to my profile.

I have employed by an outsourcing agency and landed in Dubai in 2011, It was easy as the interview happened from India. But right after completing one and half year in that company I have started to search that took me one year to land a great job. I am happy now.

But if I start looking now I would have done in much lesser time. Why? Because I have learned so much during my job hunting.

The learning from life experience is very important and by sharing that knowledge with you is far more important because you may have much lesser time than one year. I guess either you landed in Dubai for a visit visa and hunting for job in short span of two to three months or currently employed with someone in Dubai and needs to switch immediately because you need a better one.

Here I am sharing my tips

Tip #1 : The right resume or CV

In job search the 'right' resume is very important to grab a right job in Dubai.
Need to scan through your resume to ensure you have the following
  • Add Your career objectives
  • Experience profile - mention the designation, duration of work and company details. This should show before the educational qualification if you are an experienced person. In the chronological order (recent first)
  • Educational qualifications - Brief tabular representation of your educational qualification. In the chronological order.
  • Place a presentable photo in the fist page.
  • Make a short resume of page length of two and a long resume. Provide the long resume when requesting for detailed one.
  • Add your certification details
  • Add reference details.
  • Add your skill set
resume sections
And avoid!
  • Spelling and grammar mistakes. It will make the recruiters to reject at first glance.
  • Avoid adding long list of hobbies, and add the hobbies if you have any thing relevant to the job you applying.

Tip#2 : Understand the job tools available and register your CV.

In Dubai we had a lot of career tools. Here is what I learned on the job tools
  • Register on the popular portals in Dubai that lists various jobs in various industries,

Following are the popular portals. Click on them to visit and register
Also careerjet Link-> popular acts as a search engine for the most of job sites. That helps to search in multiple job sites same time

You are getting more chances to get hired by registering in the online career portals. But how do your profile get more recruiters view?

Keep updated the resume. If you just created resume and never visit the resume it never helps you. Recently updated resume appear first when recruiter looks for candidate.

Recruiters using keywords to find the candidate. You make sure you have added all skill sets you hold. Job sites works in a way to check keyword on your profile and showing up.

Ensure you filled all sections and created a presentable CV. You can check how the recruiters viewing your profile and asses that.

Tip#3 : Search and Apply jobs effectively

As I am a Java developer I always use the key word 'Java' or the skill sets I hold like java script, Spring etc. You can search with the keyword of your skill set.

You can apply from the job site itself or take the recruiter mail from the job advertisement and send the resume via mail with proper cover letter. Many of the recruiter prefers to get the application via mail that is the reason they giving the mail Id. In that case you will get the preference if you send the application via e-mail.

Also you can apply via visiting the career section of major companies like
- IBM
- Emirates
- Al Futtaim
- Emaar Properties
- Visit http://www.zawya.com/middle-east/company/ for more companies details in MENA region.

If you are in the visit visa, you can make a visit to the companies in Dubai and drop your resume. If the suitable position arrives HR will contact you.

Tip 4# Deliver the right

What I meant by saying the 'Deliver the right' is to provider the right resume to the right job.

Normally people will do to send the same resume for various position. Even if the sales position or office administrator or content editor people tends to send the same resume. He may got the experience on these three jobs but not tuning the resume appropriately to the targeting job will reduce the chance of shortlisting. The solution is to create different resumes to different position and highlight the experience in that field.

Tip 5# Apply with cover letter

Tip 6# online presence

82% of employers research a candidate online before calling them for interview - Make sure you have public profile.
Mostly employers are looking for 'industry knowledge and expertise (27%), Professional experience (24%), Professionalism (17%) etc. source - Bayt

Tip 7# Utilize social networking sites

Tip 8# follow-ups

Tip 9# interviews

if you are outside Dubai

Tip 10# create network, start apply one month before.

Is there any tips you have learned during your job hunting you would like to share?

Create your own blog or website in Dubai in 5 minutes

Create your own blog or website in Dubai in 5 minutes

You may be knowing that UAE is having highest penetration of smartphone and well connected on the internet and the online purchase trend is increasing day by day.

It is the time now you have to show your presence on internet so every one can connect to you and you can increase your business double or triple or so many folds based on how well you are doing on online.

Answering the type of questions you may have in your mind.

Question #1 Why I need website or Blog

This may be the first question came to your mind if you see this topic. I may not recommend to you create your own website if 3 or 5 year before, because people are less connected over the internet. They never research on the internet before going to watch a movie or before going to buy a book. But the things changed over years now if I am going to buy a book on latest fiction I am researching on internet by reading the descriptions and review comments. I am buying that book if a number of people tells good thing about that book. Similarly I am doing on the place where to eat, where to go on the coming weekend and even which shops running the great deals now. I believes you may also doing some part of it or all of it. Still you wonder why I need a website for my business or a blog show casing my portfolio?

The reason is simple our business also should have presence in the internet. Suppose you are an owner of Car Repairing Garage in Dubai, If I am searching where to repair my car I will go and searching in the Google and I am finding your garage results in the result page and when I click on the result I am getting your business contact details and I am booking appointment with you. But if I am not finding you I may be getting the address of other garage owner and force to go with him even if you are awesome.

Question #2 There are so many Local directories, why I need my own website

Let me tell you the local directories are enough if you just want to share your phone numbers with customers but if you want to showcase your latest work online or if you are having a flowershop and want to share the price list and want to enables online booking for flowers you can't do that right. Also the online directories are many of them outdated. The customers people like me more tends to see the authentic site in your business name to decide to business with you. That's what you need to create a website to showcase your business or professionalism.
  • Create a domain name on your business address. If your business firm name is xyz flower centre you want to create a domain in the address of www.xyzflowercenter.com when the customer looks for flowers in Dubai your webaddress will display
  • Create website in popular webhosting like bluehost.
  • Fill your awesome content

Build your website in less than 5 minutes.. follow the video

Umrah Visa - A preparatory guide

Assalam Alikum...

This season Umrah Pilgrimage started at December ,2014

The photo taken during my pilgrimage
May Allah bless all of us.

Congratulations on you decided or have a wish to visit the sacred place which is a dream of millions of brothers and sisters.

# We can go for Umrah in two ways

  1. By joining the group package provided by various tour operators.
  2. By obtaining visa from the Saudi consulate or from various Umrah operators

If you want to get the visa yourself continue read on below. Following is my experience sharing with you which will be helpful for the preparation of Umrah.

I was travelling from Dubai for Umrah a short period of 10 days. I have accompanied by my wife and 3 year old son.

# Documents required to get the Umrah visa.

It is important to note that you can apply for Umrah visa through an approved agent only. But you can do hotel, transport and flight booking yourself.

1: Original Passport (should valid for 6 months)

2 UAE Residence Visa (Valid for 3 months)

3: Vaccination Card from Ministry of health in UAE.

I took the vaccination from Al Baraha hospital Duabi. It was free of cost during that time and it is 25 Dhms per person now(You should have UAE Health Card). A vaccination certificate against Meningococcal Meningitis should be attached with your application.

The certificate of vaccinations should have been issued not more than three years and not less than 10 days prior to entry to Saudi Arabia and it is valid for three years. The vaccination certificate must be with the applicant on entry to Saudi Arabia. This vaccination is against for meningitis and influenza.

You have to take NOC certificate along with you when you going for vaccination. For pregnant vaccination not required, this certificate have to obtain from the al-baraha hospital. They will provide this by verifying the scanning and doctors other prescriptions.

4: No Objection Certificate from Sponsor.I got the certification from my sponsor, for wife and kid NOC not required. It should be in Arabic. NOC letter from company in Arabic to Saudi council name.

5: 2 Passport Size Photo's colour with white background

6. Marriage certificate copy(Not required if your spouse is in your sponsorship)

7. Emirates ID card copy

Alhamdulilla , I got the visa stamped in 5 days.

flight booking for Umrah

I booked my flight ticket through the flight carrier Air Arabia. This was the cheapest flight available other than nas air. You can book online easily
Following flights you can book online in their respective sites
From Dubai

  • Emirates
  • Fly Dubai
  • Nasair
  • Saudia
From Sharjah
  • air arabia
  • nasair
From Abudhabi
  • Etihad
  • Saudia

# hotel booking

If you are flying by arranging your visa by yourself you should book the hotel in advance. I had learned this lesson when I reached there I found difficulty to find good hotels suitable to my budget. Now the hotel booking documents are mandatory to show in the airport.

You can book the hotel in advance online in booking.com website where you can see plenty of options based on your choice. You can book in Makkah and Madinah based on your travel plan.

If you want book hotel in Madinah follow the link
If you need any help on hotel booking please find my post how to book hotel on booking.com
You can also get the help from travel agent to book the hotel. But the online booking site like booking.com will give you the hotel much lesser rate.

#Umrah Packing Check list

There are few items we should buy and be ready with. You may have that in your mind already. But don't postpone to the last minute. Following are the must items you should have.
  • Ihram two pieces of white cloth for men, available on souq
  • Duaa books and Quran small size
  • Tasbeeh
  • Prayer mat - some time you may have to pray outside due to heavy crowd.
  • Two to three pair of slippers.
  • A pair of cutting scissors to cut your hair once done the Umrah.
  • A small bag to carry the items.
Buy now

    # Ihram

I had the doubt whether the Sharjah airport have the facility to make ihram. So I made the Ihram from from my home in Dubai and started in Taxi to Sharjah airport. But in Sharjah Airport I had found plenty of spaces for Ihram. So you can make Ihram from Sharjah airport if you wishing to do the same.

Check-in and Immigration was quite easy but the Air Arabia was delayed for two hours. In the flight they are announcing when you reach in miqqat. so you can have your Ihram niyyah in the flight. You can utilize the facility of making the Ihram at the Sharjah Airport.

    # in Jeddah Airport

The immigration was quite easy. they haven't asked anything about taxi bookings and hotel bookings. I haven't done both because my relatives were there in Jeddha.

But few people saying that once you land in Jeddah and done with Boarder Control, then your Passport will be taken for processing for a short while and you will be asked, what hotel your going to and how you'd like to go to Makkah, whatever mode of transport you choose. If you have done hotel booking through agent or online(detail above) you can show the papers. So make sure you hold the printout copies with you.

In the Jeddha airport we missing Good restaurants and good environment as in Dubai. Non-Arabic speakers will have the challenge to over come those.
